A Realm Reborn:
In Gridania at last, Ritsuka met with Mother Miounne, who would provide him direction and watch over him in his time in the Shroud. He took up the lance properly in the lancer's guild within the city and began honing his skills as he offered his help to the Order of the Twin Adder in researching the effects Dalamud's anomaly would still have on the Twelveswood to this day. It turned out that all was not as calm as it seemed, and shortly after his arrival, Ritsuka met with a strange masked man not unlike the one from his dream. After a struggle with a golem the stranger sent after Ritsuka, he met again with the researchers from the wood where he suffered another vision. This time, it was of the researchers themselves and their very recent discoveries on how the aether had been changing not just the wood, but the beast tribes within.
Later, after fending off an attack from the Ixali and defeating the masked man behind it all, Ritsuka met with the head of the council of Gridania, Kan-E-Senna. Out of gratitude for his service to the city, she offered to name him Emissary in a ceremony to honor the bonds between man and elemental, something that before that time had been nearly unheard of for a stranger and adventurer besides. During the ceremony, Ritsuka unexpectedly found he carried with him a crystal of Light, and Kan-E-Senna told the story of how warriors from another realm once fought to save their world, how all remembered the battle that took place, but none could remember just who those warriors were. The vision Ritsuka endured immediately after told of that same battle, and showed the same masked man viewing from afar.
After recovering from the vision, Ritsuka was named envoy of Gridania to two other city-states in the region to call together a memorial service for those who fell during the Battle of Carteneau and the Calamity. He was successful in his task, and in his first trip home to Limsa Lominsa, met with his mother again for a short time. From the leaders of the other city-states, he learned of the Garleans and the threat they posed to Eorzea. His world had expanded, and in doing so, he had opened himself to a greater future, and a greater threat on the horizon. Worried for her son as she was, Ooni bade him press on, as his heart told him to do, and return to her again some day to share tales of his travels.
While in Ul'dah, Ritsuka met with the researchers from the Twelveswood again after suffering another vision. Yda and Papalymo revealed that Ritsuka is not the only one with this ability, and they pointed him in the direction of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. He took up their offer and paid the group's headquarters a visit. It was here that he met with Minfilia and the other members of the order. His power had a name: the Echo. Minfilia possessed it herself, and used it to help the Scions manage the threat of the primals. She offered him a place within the Scions, and Ritsuka readily accepted.
It was in the investigation for one of his first tasks for the Scions that Ritsuka was confronted with his first primal. A turncoat among them captured Ritsuka's team and took them to a place where Ifrit was summoned. The primal attempted to turn the Scions to his will, but Ritsuka could not be swayed, much to their surprise. He the fought and bested the beast and couldn't explain how, when others before him had been turned to Ifrit's slaves. In the dust where Ifrit fell, Ritsuka found a strange crystal, one that seemed to bond with him.
Not long after hearing of his adventures with Ifrit, the three Grand Companies of the three city-states came to call upon Ritsuka and ask him to join their ranks. A bit overwhelmed with their offer, Minfilia set him at ease and suggested he visit their city-states and hear their proposals in full. He took her suggestion and visited each region again to participate in their remembrance ceremonies and hear their pledges. During the ceremonies, he met Alphinaud and Alisaie. Though Alisaie seemed content to keep her silence, Alphinaud spoke for them. He explained they were looking for enlightenment. Ultimately, he ended up taking arms with the Order of the Twin Adder, where he first started his path as an adventurer.
